Chapel & Gardens

The Chapel – An Artist’s Dream

Samuel J. Butcher, artist and creator of Precious Moments, dreamed of building a chapel as his gift of gratitude for God’s blessings in his life. After laboring for five years, through faith, that dream became reality with the opening of Precious Moments Chapel in 1989. Located in the scenic Ozarks of Southwest Missouri, the hearts of millions of visitors have been touched by the serenity, inspiration and beauty of Precious Moments Chapel and gardens.

Chapel Inside
The Chapel is Sam Butcher’s life’s work and crowning achievement. 84 magnificent, hand painted murals covering 9,000 square feet adorn the walls and ceiling. His innocent, child-like characters depict beloved Bible stories and God’s promises of love and hope. The centerpiece of these is the large mural, “Hallelujah Square,” in which Mr. Butcher portrays Heaven as a place of reunion and new joy.

30 intricate stained glass windows grace the Chapel, featuring hundreds of rich, jewel-tone colors. Exceptional craftsmanship is evident in every detail, including the elaborate design of the ironwork gates, hand-carved entry doors, and bronze work.

The fulfillment of an artist’s dream, Precious Moments Chapel is truly an artistic masterpiece with a beautiful message of love, hope & inspiration.

Grounds and Gardens

Nestled in the rolling foothills of the beautiful Ozark Mountains sits the Precious Moments Chapel. With your first step onto the grounds, you’ll discover why so many have found this place to be a haven of peace and inspiration. The Chapel is home to acres of manicured grounds and dozens of gardens featuring flowering plants of many stunning varieties. You don’t need to have a green thumb to appreciate the perfect beauty of this natural wonder. Visitors marvel at the bronze statues and fountains providing many photo opportunities.

Near the calm waters of Center Creek, the Chapel gardens are a place where guests to the Precious Moments Chapel often find opportunities to escape the rush and hurry of the everyday life. A walk down the Avenue of Angels where sunlight and shadow create a place for quiet reflection, and moments of togetherness with friends and family are often favorite memories of a Chapel visit.

Each season brings its own beauty for all to enjoy. No matter what time of year, everywhere one turns, another photo opportunity appears. Precious Moments Chapel and its gardens are open daily, year round with the exception of Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. Experience the beauty today!
