Precious Moments Chapel
The Heart of Precious Moments
Since opening in 1989, the Precious Moments Chapel has offered a place of peace, reflection, and inspiration, touching millions of hearts from all walks of life. Created by artist Sam Butcher, the Chapel is a tribute to faith and creativity. Inside, you’ll find 85 beautiful hand-painted murals, 30 stained-glass windows, and intricate wood and bronze work, each reflecting his heartfelt devotion.
Entering the Chapel Sanctuary
Standing nearly 7 feet high and weighing approximately 350 pounds, the beautiful Narra wood front door features three angels with heads bowed in reverie surrounded by an intricate design of vines and entwined Christian fish. A message from Habakkuk 2:20 carved in the door reminds us: "But the Lord is in His Holy Temple. Let all the Earth be silent before Him."
From Paper Napkins to Bronze Reliefs
The Chapel entrance is framed by two 9-foot-tall bronze reliefs, each weighing 850 pounds and depicting the Old Testament on the east wall and New Testament on the west. Remarkably, the original designs began as sketches by Samuel J. Butcher on paper napkins before being sculpted in beeswax, grease, and clay. Beyond the vestibule, visitors pass through hand-carved wooden doors that Mr. Butcher spent more than a year creating with skilled artisans in the Philippines.
Hallelujah Square
Hallelujah Square is the breathtaking centerpiece of the Chapel, spanning 26 feet from floor to ceiling. This magnificent mural offers a glimpse of heaven through the eyes of a child and includes tributes to many people who touched Samuel J. Butcher's heart. Reflecting on the Chapel and its artwork, Sam shared, "It is my prayer that my artwork will continue to honor the Lord and that all who enter the Chapel will be blessed by the ministry of Precious Moments."
The Gardens
Award Winning Gardens
Discover the beauty and tranquility of the Precious Moments Gardens. Stroll winding pathways, walk the Avenue of Angels, and enjoy bronze fountains, ornate wrought-iron gates, and peaceful spaces for reflection overlooking Center Creek. Along the way, explore beloved landmarks including Resurrection Cave and Grandpa's Island.
Avenue of Angels
The Avenue of Angels is a peaceful pathway guiding guests down to the Chapel. It is an area of quiet reflection lined with large, bronze trumpeting angel statues standing sentry along each side of the walkway.
Chapel Plaza
Commemorate and revisit memorials for a loved one, celebrate a special memory, or share your own story with the timeless gift of an Engraved Brick in the Precious Moments Chapel Plaza.
Resurrection Cave
Nestled on the east side of the Chapel grounds, Resurrection Cave invites visitors to reflect on the story of Christ's resurrection. Featuring a wooden cross and a hand-sculpted bronze Precious Moments Angel, the cave celebrates the promise of Easter and the message that "He is not here; He has risen." This special landmark was an important part of Samuel J. Butcher's vision and one of the features he hoped to find when choosing the site for the Precious Moments Chapel.
