A Note From Our President, Wendy Lake

It’s been nearly one year since I wrote my first “Note From Our President” for the website.  Where has that time gone?!

I watched the Spring days turn into hot and humid midwestern Summer days as we ushered in our first Precious Moments Week in late July.  Then before I knew it, the crisp chill of Autumn was upon us as we prepared for the annual Maple Leaf Festival and, of course, our Family Reunion Event.  Autumn leaves fell and we expected the cold face of Winter to freeze us all, but instead, it stayed unseasonably warm as we celebrated with our first Carthage Christmas Parade (we won “Mayor’s Choice Award”!) and enjoyed the reason for the season with our Music Of Christmas performances.   The Winter weather did eventually catch up to the calendar, as hard snows closed the roads and sidewalks but for only a few days.

Now, it’s once again a delightful Spring day, only this time it’s in our 35th Anniversary year.  Each day I look out the window to my office and am in awe at the changing scenery.  Whether it’s the weather or the wildlife visiting the property (stop eating the flowers, deer!!), I know I am blessed to visit the Chapel every day, interact with my amazing Team Timmy members, and to call this “work”.

In a few short months, it’ll be our official anniversary day.  I was not in Carthage on that warm June day in 1989 when the Chapel was dedicated and opened to the public, rather I was in 4th grade learning fractions (eew, math) with Mrs. Emily “Tucky” Marchica, but I am blessed to be able to be in attendance for our special dedication day event.

Even if you cannot join us in person in June for the Chapel Dedication Day, I pray you do have the opportunity to visit us this year or connect with us on our social media and through our email newsletters during this special anniversary year.  Time’s change, but some things stay the same.  The Heart Of Precious Moments will hopefully always stay the same.  We are blessed to be able to have it here, for whenever we need a break, a moment of quiet reflection, or a touch of inspiration.

Thank you, Mr. Butcher, for sharing your talents with us.  Because you wanted to pay thanks to the Lord for all your many gifts, the Chapel exists so we can all do the same.  We are truly blessed this treasure has survived 35 years.  With your love and support, I know we can continue to share Mr. Butcher’s legacy for another 35 years — and beyond.
